The View From The Corpse

Ext – Day – The Backyard

A ghostly-looking MAN, 68, skinny and smoking a used cigarette stares down at an old tennis shoe. There is blood on it.

MAN

Harriet? Did you lose a shoe?

Silence. The Man puts ths shoe in an old burlap bag and walks on.

He stops. He looks down. He takes a drag on his soggy cigarette. He bends down and picks up a Barbie Doll with one arm missing. He smiles at it.

MAN

Harriet! I found Barbie!

He puts it in the bag. He gets to the head of a short flight of stairs. He looks at the view: buildings, trees, plants.

MAN

It’s a nice view you’ve got here, Harriet.

He takes a drag and blows an O-ring into the air. He looks at the bag in his hand.

MAN

Yeah, quite a view.

He drops the bag and descends the stairs.

We see the bag. It’s bloody. We look closer. The mouth of the bag is open and we stare at it for a moment before we see an eye staring back at us. It blinks.

Ext Day – Garden

The MAN walks out of the picture.

Fade to Black

Want to see what a screenplay that was written in three days looks like? Read on, MacDuff. If you find any mistakes, I wouldn’t be surprised – I barely had time to type it, let alone plot-check it. I’m just happy the characters maintain their correct names most of the time. It’s in the upper right-hand corner, or click this link –  and it’s called:

Chimera Woman

Synopsis: Private Detective Delacort is asked to find Eva Brown’s sister. Trouble is, Eva has never seen her sister. Together they plunge into the world of genetic engineering, identity theft, and murder.
